The late Alan Ring, and his nephew, Stuart Ring recall that Felix was a translator for NYS construction crews c. 1910 - 1917.  Memories state the Felix spoke fluent Russian, German and Polish which were the qualifications that landed him the position.  Supposedly, it was while as a translator for the State of NY that Felix met Ada ALLEN in Elmdale, St. Lawrence County, NY.  Their marriage record documents that Felix lived in Elmdale, NY at the time of their marriage on November 26, 1912.

Letters from Ada to Felix from 1912 to 1918 document Felix as also living in Pittsburgh, PA.  These letters still have the original envelopes and the address of Felix's residence was Kirkpatrick St.

In 1918 Felix began his occupation with the A & P Company.  Felix held the position of superintendent for the A&P Grocery store chain, and his district included Albany, NY, Pittsburgh, PA and northern NY.

A & P was short for THE GREAT ATLANTIC & PACIFIC TEA Co. and the central division was in Youngstown, Ohio.  Letters in our possession with the corporate logo of the company from George Steele [Felix's supervisor] to Felix Ring show communication between the two after Felix left the grocery store chain c. 1938.

Felix left the grocery store chain in 1938, and purchased a 5 & 10 in Adams, NY, which at the time was known as Flansberry's.  This store, renamed Rings 5 & 10 became the family business until the 1980's.  The business was eventually incorporated when Fred and Ada's two sons; Fred and Al became owners.  For a time, the Ring's also owned a variety store in Watertown, NY, which was sold to Jim BOCKMAN and became known as BOCKMAN's.   The location was on Arsenal St., Watertown, NY across from Watertown High School.

Ada and Felix loved to travel.  Diaries of Felix indicate that the visited 48 of the United States.  The couple owned a trailer in Lakeland, FL for many years after Felix's retirement.  Felix and Ada were very close friends with a couple named Ralph and Mildred Howe, who also owned a trailer in the same park.
